How to Apply
Praxis Requirements
The Praxis Series exams are a requirement for participation in the Baltimore City Teaching Residency; however, they are not part of our initial application process. Consequently, accepted candidates will be required to submit Praxis scores before training begins.
In order to matriculate into the Baltimore City Teaching Residency, all candidates must supply passing scores on the following Praxis examinations:
-
Praxis I (reading, writing, math)
-
Praxis II Content Knowledge* in assigned subject area
*Special Education Resident Teachers will also need to take and pass the Praxis II - Special Education, Content Based Core Principals immediately following the institute training.
*Art, music and foreign language Resident Teachers are required to take and pass both Part I and Part II sections of the Praxis II Content Knowledge exams.
Although not an initial application requirement, the Baltimore City Teaching Residency strongly encourages you to register to take all three portions of the Praxis I exam as a computer-based test as soon as possible.
We also suggest taking the Praxis II Content Knowledge exams required for your subject area early, as many candidates and Resident Teachers find the exams challenging. Earlier test administrations may allow candidates to retake examinations before passing documentation is required by the Baltimore City Teaching Residency.
All candidates accepted into either the 2009 Winter or Summer Programs will be required to produce passing scores on all required tests before beginning Institute training.
Registration for the Praxis Series exam is handled through ETS. Please visit www.ets.org to register online for a test and for more information about the Praxis exam.
